Easy Acrylic Leaves- Bible Journaling With Me

I looove painting leaves. Pretty much all leaves (at least the way I paint them) are made up of just one or two brush strokes. Which makes painting leaves super simple! And while they are easy to paint, they are also so beautiful!

Of course, leaves are (usually) necessary in floral paintings. They make flowers look finished and natural. But leaves can also make up gorgeous paintings, or Bible journaling pages all on their own!

In today’s “Bible journaling with me” video I’ll show you how I painted a super pretty Bible journaling page with three leaf styles.

Key Notes

-I used acrylic paint for my page, but the same idea can be applied to watercolors as well. The big difference though, is that you can’t paint light watercolors on top of a dark- like you can with acrylics. So you will have to get creative. If you would rather use watercolors, I highly recommend checking out this Monochrome Watercolor Leaves post (it’s one of my all-time favorites.)

-I also used my ESV Interleaved Journaling Bible, which has full blank pages for every other page. But if you don’t have that Bible, you can make a tip-in or scale it down to fit margins of the Bible you do have! *See picture below!

-Painting with acrylics in the Bible can be intimidating, but acrylics are really one of the best Bible journaling supplies to use! You don’t have to prep your page in order to use them (I don’t prep with any of the supplies I use) because THEY DON’T BLEED THROUGH. In fact, they can act as a page prep on their own! Meaning, you can use inks and supplies that normally would bleed through on top of acrylics and it will stop them from bleeding. Acrylics are just great, so I hope you will give them a shot!

Here I used the same concept as the page in the interleaved Bible, but scaled it to fit my standard 2″ margin Bible!

The Verse

The verse I worked on for this page was Psalm 116:1.

I love the Lord, because he has heard
my voice and my pleas for mercy.

With verses like this, where it doesn’t have a clear visual, I often opt to paint florals or leaves. Just because they are so pretty! So in this instance the verse and the Bible journaling art don’t correlate, but it was all about spending time in the word, meditating on His word, and worshiping him through creativity.
