I’m a bit nervous about sharing this week’s “Bible journaling with me” page. It’s a personal and powerful page to me, but it is different from my usual style. And it comes with a bit of a story.

For this Bible journaling page, I used a maze that my Dad created and made it into a tip-in Bible journaling page!

My dad is a CPA/ Finance Business Manager, and every year while I was growing up he would have to go for a long weekend to a CPA conference. As you can probably imagine, accounting conferences are not very exciting, haha. So to keep his hands busy while listening to the lectures, my dad would draw mazes.

Then, when he got home, my mom would copy the maze off and my (older) brother and I would race each other to see who could complete it first. Sometimes they would take us 30 minutes to solve! My brother typically beat me (*cough cough* cheater :P).

It was a small part of my childhood, but something my brother and I will always remember.

Fast forward, and a few weeks ago my Dad was cleaning his office and found one of the mazes he made! So of course he brought it home and my Mom made copies. My family happened to be getting together that Sunday, so my brother and I raced each other to solve it. He beat me again.. and even as adults it took us a bit to figure it out!

As I was working my way through this latest maze I knew I wanted to make a Bible journaling page out of it.

Solving the maze my Dad created had me reflecting on my amazing parents and how thankful I am to have their guidance. But it also allowed me to reflect on how thankful I am to have my heavenly father’s guidance. There are so many twists and turns in life, and sometimes it is hard to find a way to go, or it feels like we are a bit lost. Thankfully though, we can trust in God to guide us and our paths.

Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.

So, I took the maze home, made a printable out of it, and set out to put it in my Bible. Ultimately, I ended up making a tip-in. (I’ve been doing quite a few tip-ins lately- check out THIS tutorial to learn more about tip-ins.)

I cut a sheet of Tomoe River Paper to the size of my Bible page and then traced my dad’s maze onto it with a Tombow Fudenosuke brush pen. It would have been a lot easier and simpler to just print it right onto the tomoe paper (printer paper would work just fine too) and cut that to size, but I enjoyed taking the time to trace it and meditate on the scripture.

I added some watercolor to my page and glued it into my Bible. I then decided to add watercolor and lettering to the corresponding page to tie them together.

It’s a different style and may not be as traditionally “pretty” as other Bible journaling pages I create. But it is one of the most special Bible journaling pages I have ever done and it means so much to me. Which is what Bible journaling is all about.

I purposely kept the maze unsolved so that as others find it in the future they can have fun solving it too!

Check out the video on how I created this page below!

The Free Maze Printable

Alright, so I asked my Dad if I could share the maze and he said “of course!!”, so I am making this maze available to you for free! (Personal use or Bible journaling groups only please!)

You can totally use this maze for fun and not as a Bible journaling thing. Try seeing how fast you or your kids can solve it and let me know how you do in the comments!

I pray that this maze brings you as much joy as it does to me.
