If you’ve been to the blog before, you probably know how much I love Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors. They are super pigmented, last a very long time, and don’t bleed-through a Journaling Bible page!

(Disclaimer: I personally have never had any bleed-through with these watercolors, but test it out in the back of your Bible first.)

I have been using the 36-color Kuretake set for three years now, and while it still has some wear left, some colors needed replacing. You can purchase individual pans online from sites like Jetpens. But I learned that they recently released a 48-color set and I just couldn’t resist buying it. GIVE ME ALL THE COLORS!

And since I know this set will last for years to come (note that I use these watercolors at least three times a week), I was happy to spend the $40 on it.

ANYWAYS, I had a short time while the baby napped to do some Bible journaling, so I decided to paint a quick and easy watercolor background that would allow me to try out some of the new colors.

This watercolor background is so simple that anyone can do it. It’s particularly great for those just starting out with adding paint to their Bible.

Just paint messy spots of different colors all around your page. Use any combination of colors you’d like. Add lettering, or stamps, or stickers, and then some embellishments if desired!

Check out the video below to see exactly how I did it!

Key Notes

  • I do not prep my pages! I paint directly on the Journaling Bible page and do not have any bleed through with the supplies I use!
  • I use the same eight supplies for 99% of my Bible journaling pages. Find out more about them HERE
  • I personally do not mind painting over the text in my specific journaling Bibles, but that is a personal decision. Do what feels right for you! (The Interleaved Journaling Bible is a great Bible option, as it has full blank pages on every other page. So you can paint directly in the Bible without worrying about covering up the text.)
