Today I have a “Bible journaling with me” video to share with you on painting a simple landscape!

My inspiration for this landscape page came from flipping through my first Journaling Bible and stumbling upon a page I had created over two and a half years ago! The page was on Psalm 30:5, which says “For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” To illustrate this page originally, I picked up watercolors for one of the first times and painted a sunrise landscape scene. I also tried my hand at hand-lettering in a couple different styles.

Now, while I still find my original page pretty and meaningful, when I looked back upon it I was reminded how I have improved SO MUCH since then!

So I really wanted to roughly recreate that landscape page using new techniques I have learned over the last couple years! I decided to use my ESV Interleaved Bible, and acrylic paints this time.

After reflecting on my two Psalm 30:5 landscape pages, I realized that I really wanted this post/video to serve as encouragement to you. Especially if you are one of the MANY people who contact me saying they don’t have the talent that I do.

I have mentioned before, that when I started Bible journaling, I had picked up a paintbrush maybe a few times in my life. I had never thought of myself as artistic, and my drawing ability had mainly been confined to stick-figures and hearts! (Ask my parents and they will tell you that they are so surprised I now paint for a living! Just the other day my Mom asked me astounded “where and how did you learn how to do this?!?”- I’m surprised myself)

But I knew I wanted to try creating art in my Bible, and learn new techniques. So I jumped in! My first few pages were traced clipart images that I colored with colored pencils (I recromend this as a GREAT place to begin), and then I gradually moved into watercolors and other mediums.

I was not immediately creating the types of Bible journaling pages I create today!

It has taken me years and lots of effort to get to the artistic level I am at today. And I still have so much to learn! I’m so excited to see where I will be in another two and a half years!

So, my encouragement to you, if you do not think you are artistic or talented enough, YOU CAN DO IT!

YOU CAN ONLY IMPROVE FROM HERE!

Be kind to yourself, and find joy in each Bible journaling page that you create. And always remember, that your artistic skill does not matter! What matters is spending time with God, digesting the Word, and worshiping through your art in whatever way that may look.
