Okay, this tutorial has been a loooooong time coming. I have been asked to do an ocean sunset tutorial so many times and today I am finally bringing it to you!

Simple Acrylic Ocean Sunset Tutorial- Bible Journaling Tip-In

My biggest goal for this blog is to make Bible journaling approachable and doable for everyone, no matter how much experience you have with painting or your artistic skill level. So it took me a while to figure this sunset painting out. Because, I wanted it to be easy enough that a complete beginner could do it, but also so pretty that it looks professional. (Not that we need to be creating professional pieces of art- we are just Bible journaling here, it’s about worshiping God, not the art.) I think that I figured it out!

This acrylic sunrise tutorial is such a good one. If you are a complete beginner or have never worked with acrylics, blending the colors may take a bit of practice, but I promise it is doable!

Supplies Used

*I used cheap apple barrel acrylic paints from Walmart, but you could use any acrylic paint- they don’t bleed through a journaling Bible’s pages. The colors I used were: Flag Red, Ripe Tomato, Yellow, Cameo Pink, Blue Bonnet, Admiral Blue, Bimini Blue, White, Antique White.

About Bible Journaling Tip-Ins

I decided to paint my sunrise on a separate sheet of paper so that I could have a larger space to work in. (Normally I would use my Interleaved Journaling Bible which has full blank pages already, but I decided to put this in my Single Column Journaling Bible this time.) Then, I glued it into my Bible as a tip-in.

Tip-ins are a great option, especially for beginners, because you don’t have to worry about making a mistake and “ruining” your Bible. I talk more about tip-ins in THIS POST. I also, more recently, did a watercolor tip-in that has a lot of great information, and talks more about the Tomoe River paper I like to use for tip-ins- find that post HERE.

I used Tomoe River Cream Loose Leaf Paper for my acrylic sunset tip-in. I LOVE this paper because it is basically the same paper used in most journaling Bibles, so it blends seamlessly in with the Bible and it doesn’t add much extra bulk. You could totally use printer paper or whatever paper you have on hand though.

I hope that you will give this tutorial a shot! Remember, it is about spending time with God and worshipping Him, creating something pretty is just a benefit! So enjoy the process.
