Watercolor Forest Scene Tutorial- Bible Journaling With Me

I have been painting this one type of forest scene a lot lately. I did it first on the cover of a Bible and just loved it, so I have painted it a bunch of times since!

I showed these paintings on my Instagram stories and got so many followers asking for a tutorial, so today I thought I would go ahead and do one!

I also thought it would be fun to giveaway a free printable of my forest scene! You can use it in your Bible by making a tip-in out of it, or even printing it on sticker paper. You can also use it for whatever you’d like outside of your Bible (personal use only please).

The Tutorial

This tutorial may seem very intimidating, but really the techniques are pretty simple! You may need to practice it a few times, but I’m confident that you can create something similar!

Remember, this is just my example, we all are different and will create different things! So be creative with it, have fun, and do what you want! Don’t be afraid to make mistakes!

Supplies Used

Zondervan NIV Journal The Word Bible

Kuretake Gansai Tambi 48 Color Watercolor Set

Micron Pen

Medium flat and small round paintbrushes (link is for a set of paintbrushes I like, but I use any cheap synthetic brushes)

Craft Heat Gun (To dry the page faster. It is not a necessity, but I will say that I LOVE having a heat gun and it is the ONE supply I use for every single one of my Bible journaling pages

Some things to note

  • I do not prep my pages! I paint directly on the Journaling Bible page and do not have any bleed through with the supplies I use!
  • I use the same eight supplies for 99% of my Bible journaling pages. Find out more about them HERE
  • I personally do not mind painting over the text in my specific journaling Bibles, but that is a personal decision. Do what feels right for you! (The Interleaved Journaling Bible is a great Bible option, as it has full blank pages on every other page. So you can paint directly in the Bible without worrying about covering up the text.)
